How I found inspiration from an unexpected source

I love pattern release day. It is like the reward for all the hard work that is associated with a design, both from me and from my pattern testers. Today is the  pattern release for the Rose Cloud Blouse. Together with my 10 patterns testers I am happy to present to you a pattern that is sized from XS up to 2XL and has a variety of options to make the perfect blouse for you.

The story about the Rose Cloud Blouse is also a story of how you can find inspiration from the most unexpected source.

It was in early spring and watching the news every night became the new norm. I had to follow the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Terrible pictures and numbers playing in front of my eyes. I had to try to find some positivity or beauty. As a garment designer that became the clothes of the news presenters. It became almost like the highlight of the evening watching what they were wearing. One thing kept on repeating: a blouse with a bowtie. Tied in the middle, at the back, on the side, the options were endless.

After a month of watching I had to make my own. Luckily my mother-in-law sent a message with a gift card for yarns she had received. She couldn’t find any use for it (I know!) and asked if I wanted it. It took me around 10 minutes and my yarn was on it’s way.

A few days waiting and I finally got started. It felt like the fastest project ever. It had been brewing in my mind for so long that it was only the execution left. A few trial and errors are always included in the design process but overall it was a fast project.

Ready with my make and full of the after yarn glow I called my sister and asked if I could make her one in mustard. She didn’t like the idea at all. That made me a bit sad of course but I kept asking why. She didn’t like the bowtie in the front. I get that. It is not for everyone. Hence the option to close it at the back was born.

The Rose Cloud Blouse is worked top down with a circular yoke. You try it on as you go to get the perfect shape. That makes it also a fun project as you see how it will look as you go.

The blouse is perfect for the advanced beginner to intermediate maker.

The pattern can be made either as tied in the front or with a closure at the back. For closing it at the back you may choose to use a push button, regular button or tie it.

If you want, and I know you do, you can shape the blouse to fit your body. The pattern guides you through how to get the perfect fit for you.

I used Novita Wool Cotton and my testers made excellent versions using these yarns:

Any DK weight yarn with a bit of stretch should work fine.
