Making the perfect vest

I was on a mission, a mission to create the perfect vest. Pinterest, instagram, magazines, tv-shows, the inspiration sources where endless. I decided that I wanted to make a V-neck vest in the granite stitch (aka moss or linen stitch). The Toffee Shop Vest was born and mission completed. Or? Not yet it would appear.

As you know from my previous posts I am quick to call my sister and ask for her opinion. “It is nice for being a vest. But it is still a vest” was her answer. “How would a vest you like look like?” I asked her. I immediately got a picture from her portraying an open vest with flowers and a cute little neckline. It was in fabric and worn over a pretty white blouse. I knew exactly how to make an open vest she would like.

I decided that I wanted to make it top down. Just because it is so fun when you can try it on as you crochet it. But I couldn’t make it in raglan or circular yoke which are my usual options for top down. I had to get creative. And creative this is. It is made from 5 pieces  crocheted on to the neckline and connected later on, all without any sewing. I love how fast every piece is made up making it a fun project to make over a cup of coffee or two. When all pieces are connected it is the perfect project to bring in front of the tv and crochet away while you watch your favourite show.

I was watching The Forgotten Army on Netflix while crocheting this. If you’ve seen it you will probably see how I accidentally made a vest similar to the vest the older man is wearing. My vest is inspired from the picture my sister sent and I only started to watch the show after crocheting it for a while. But still, the resemblance made my laugh so hard when I tried the vest on releasing I was twinning with the man on the show. There are quite many differences when you look again. But that describes this pattern well. It is a unisex pattern. Pair it with a nice blouse or dress and you’ll get a feminine look. Pair it with a tee and jeans and you are ready for a casual day out shopping.

The original vest had quite wide shoulders. That is also the version made by the testers. We decided in the end to modify it a bit as default in the pattern and the pattern also includes instructions how to modify it even more. The armhole is made big so that the vest can easily be work over other garments. The pattern includes instructions how to make these smaller as well if you’d like.

You find all the details on yarn usage, sizes etc. on your preferred shopping site through below links.
