Crochet a Puff Sleeve Sweater

Raglan is one of my favourite type of sweater or cardigan designs to make. Mainly because it requires minimal sewing and you can try on the garment as you go. Which is really rewarding and fun! I’ve made a couple of raglans to this day, with Lime Berry Cardigan being the latest.

This blog post will tell you the design story about the crochet pattern for the Lumous Puff Sleeve Sweater and Tee and you’ll get to know all the details about the pattern.

Story

With all things happening this year it has meant that I've spent a lot of time watching tv and crochet at the same time. That has also meant that a lot of the inspiration from my designs this year from different tv shows. A trend for the shows I've watched has been puff sleeves.

They have slowly been growing on me until I one day figured out how I would use it in a design. As always I want the Scandinavian feel but with details that stand out. I found this perfect yarn for it. It has a lovely drape and is light enough to not make the sleeves fall but be puffy instead. Most puff on the sleeves you get making the tee version. For the long sleeve version I took the sleeves down a bit in "puff" so it is easier to wear under a coat. But of course you can have a glimpse at the tee sleeves instructions to get puffier sleeves also for the long sleeved version. Both options are included in the same pattern.

About the Crochet Pattern

The garment is made as a raglan beginning with the neckband. You'll fall in love with the double brim neckband at once and it will be a joy for the eyes making it.

It is made top down and after the raglan part it is worked in the round. The pattern includes written instructions together with pictures that guides you through how to make it. Since it is worked top down you can try it on as you go and see a glimpse of the finished result early on. That's rewarding!

You can choose to make it either as a tee or with long sleeves. The pattern has detailed instructions for both options.

Yarn Choice

I used a yarn blend that has a 44% acrylic, 26% polyamide and 15% merino wool. I think it would be great also to combine an alpaca or wool yarn with a strand of mohair.

Recommended Yarn: Novita Lumous or other DK / 8 ply / 11 wpi / 3-weight yarn with a blend of fibres. Lumous has a blend of: 44% acrylic, 26% polyamide, 15% merino wool, 15% alpaca.

My testers made excellent versions using these yarns:

Estimated Yarn usage: 1000 m / 1100 y - 1900 m / 2100 y
