Guest Blog Post: Grape Fields Shawl

During the summer I found this beautiful account on instagram: joyofmotion. I scrolled through all the pictures and really liked what I saw. Reading the captions I realised it was a blog with free crochet patterns and that guest blog posters where invited regularly. I wanted to be a part of that!

With the Summer Haze Cardigan fresh in my mind I pitched my idea for the Grape Fields Shawl to Janne. I got so happy when I got the reply that I had got accepted to make a blog post for her blog.

That is what I personally like the most with this pattern. The endless opportunities to change the look and feel of this design by using the yarns you have in your closet.

The story

I was in my in-laws summer cottage at the time and where running out of yarn. I had one skein of leftover Paintbox Yarns Simply DK and decided to get started with that so that I could try out my idea. I also went online browsing and purchasing yarn for the final product.

At the same time I started to think about my designs for the autumn and asked on instagram what you wanted to see for the fall. Many of you answered that you wanted to see projects using scrap yarns both due to the difficulties getting new yarn due to covid-19 and also to get the opportunity to use the yarn you already have.

This made me cancel my order for new yarn and take it as a challenge to use scraps for this design. I want to show that you can make something beautiful with what you have in hands.

Yarn

The pattern make a suggestion on how much to use in each color and the yarn weight to use. But you can mix and match as you please and combining two strands of a fingering weight yarn for example to make a DK weight. or make the whole shawl using another weight and get yourself an oversized shawl / wrap that is perfect for fall.

That is what I personally like the most with this pattern. The endless opportunities to change the look and feel of this design by using the yarns you have in your closet.

Since the shawl has details of a climbing wine rank on each side I wanted the name for the shawl to portrait this: the Grape Fields Shawl was born.
