Fall Crochet Garments Collection - Crochet Foundry Magazine

I can finally spill the secret - I’ve designed one of the crochet garments for the Crochet Foundry Magazine Fall edition. My submission is the Sand Dunes Poncho! The theme for this edition is desert boho and I couldn’t think of a better way to represent it but through a triangle poncho.

Wrapping it around you - like a hug

This poncho is an extension of my Sand Dunes garment-series. I’ve always wanted to add a poncho to it and got so excited when I saw that it would fit in the Fall edition of Crochet Foundry magazine. The poncho is oversized so that it will feel like you have wrapped yourself in a blanket. The oversized fit makes it also great to be able to put on top of other garments, making it a great layering piece for those colder autumn days.

Story and Materials

The pattern is written in six sizes XS/S (S/M, M/L, 1X/2X) (3X/4X, 5X) and it is mainly made using the half double crochet stitch.

To make it a fairly quick project it was essential to use a larger yarn weight and hook size. For this project I’ve used Mighty Stitch from We Crochet and you’ll need 6 (7, 8, 10) (11, 13) balls in main color (Oyster) and 2 balls in contrast color (Spruce) or 1100 (1450, 1650, 1950) (2250, 2600) yards in main color and 220 (250, 300, 300) (320, 370) yards in contrast color.

I used the 5 mm (H) Alpha Series -hook from Furls Crochet for whole project.

A project for the advanced beginner or more intermediate crocheter

The poncho is made in one piece which means that it doesn’t require any sewing! I know that is something appreciated by many crocheters alike. Since it uses mainly the half double crochet stitch it is easy for the more advanced beginner, but the border might feel a bit tricky if you haven’t been crochet stitches together before. That is why it is grade to the more intermediate crocheter, but the largest part of the project is fairly easy.

A collection of 7 garments and several accessories

Except for the Sand Dunes Poncho the Fall edition of the Crochet Foundry Magazine includes several garments and accessories created by a great variety of excellent crochet designers. Included is also instructions how to customize the garments, a style guide and several interviews with makers and small business owners. With a total of over 100 pages this issue is full of goodies for fall!
